The Karachai-Cherkess Republic's territory
occupies the tableland of over 14.1 thousands km. sq. of land. Among this 143000 hectare is arable land. 101000 hectare are
haying fields, 256000 hectare is pasturage, and others are
mountains.
On the land are working 8 regions, 68
agricultures, 132 farms.
They are growing
maize, sunflowers, potatoes, sugar beets and vegetables. There are many fruits gardens here. They are Erkin-Shahar
fruits economy and Kuban. Cherkess farmers. The green house "South"-Juzhni is one of the biggest in Russia and Europe.
The Karachai-Cherkess Republik Is rich In forests and rivers. They are Kuban river.
Big Zeienchuck, Small Zeienchuck.
Laba and Teberda.
The water in the river Teberda is very clean. The road to Teberda weaves across the Teberda valley among the wood covered mountains, following the banks of
the river Teberda, now slow and majestic when the valley brothels out, now roaring and
foaming when the mountains get in its path. High up above sea level Teberda region,
protected by mountain ranges, has favorable climatic conditions. An excellent mountain
weather station is situated there. Numerous mountain streams,
waterfalls, lakes, leaf-bearing and coniferous woods
covering mountain slopes, real taiga in places, sub-alpine
meadows and eternal snows and glaciers higher up make. Teberda is one of most attractive
spots in the world and a major center of tourism and mountaineering.
There are many natural springs here. The mineral water from Mara. Krasnogorka. Bychasyn. Krasnovostok narzan springs, is filled In bottles and sold in our shops.
The both Cherkessk and Ust-Zheguta reservoirs occupies 10 hectare. The both are
connected by Stavropol irrigation canal. There is a big hydroelectric power station on the
canal.
The forests occupy 396000 hectare. 6 foresters are looking after these forests, they are situated in Karachaevsk, Beskes, Zeienchuk, Storozhevaja and make many kinds of wood spoons.
The slopes of the mountain and forests,
precipitous and very picturesque are covered by a thick growth of oaks, ashes, horn-beams, maples, elms, fir-trees, pines,
cost beeches, white spruces.
The foresters have 18 ground-places for growing new trees.
It occupies 200 hectare.
The territory, famous for its picturesque
landscapes, has mild climate,
rich soil, various minerals and goods-natured
people. The Karachai-Cherkess Republic is rich in coal, lead and marble. The coal
extractive stock company in Karachajevsk mines every year
52000 tonns of black coal.
The Stock company in Urup extracts 290000 tonns of copper every year. The Metro and
other famous government's buildings are faces with marble from Karachai-Cherkess Republic
is rich in gravel and clay and in housing construction and takes the first place in North
Caucasus.
The Karachai-Cherkess Republic borders
south on Georgia, east on Kabardino-Balkaria, west on
Krasnodar region, north on Stavropol region.
The Karachai-Cherkess Republic belongs to
Russia. It got its Status of Republic in 1991 on 3 July. The
first Parliamentary was elected on 10-th June in 1995.
Since September in 1995 the Government of
Republic began to work.
The first constitution of
Karachai-Cherkess Republic was approved in March 1996.
The Karachai-Cherkess Republic started a
new life. The national policy of Russia presupposes complete equality of all peoples, regardless, of their nationality, for all peoples to built
their own life on the basis of
Republic.
The are karachais,
cherkesses, abazintsis, nogaitsi, russions, and many
others. Hundreds of them have graduated from higher schools and became doctors and
candidates of sciences, engineers,
field specialists, doctors,
teacher, writers, and state
industry functionaries, big businessmen.
There are two high
schools in Republic: technological and pedagogical institutes.
There are medical pedagogical, musical
and many other colleges here.
In last 4 years were opened here some new
secondary schools and one children's home, the Karachai-Cherkess-Turkey
lyceum.
The Karachai-Cherkess
Republic has cherkess, karachai and russian theatres, state
ensemble "Elbrus", museum, arts gallery, philharmonic.
